Arabian International Construction: Company Profile
In 1987, Arabian International
Construction (AIC) was established as a corporation under Law
159/1981.
The company's wide spectrum of contracting activities has enabled
it to build a strong track record with diversified and
well-established client base. Its reputation of rendering fast,
efficient and superior service to its client enabled it to create
strong name recognition, as well as, gain market share from
competitors. It is one of the top three private sector
contractors in Egypt in terms of size.
AIC was able to achieve its market share in 12 years, while its
competitors have been participants for over 50 years.
Arabian International Construction is a fast growing private
sector venture. Innovation and professional management
contributes to the success of the business. AIC's management
focuses on high-profitability infrastructure projects. The
operating margin reached 13.8% in 1997, compared with a sector of
12.7%.
The increasing domestic existence of AIC can be attributed to the
flexibility offered to meet customer requirements. AIC can offer
custom-tailored packages ranging from the design and development
to project management and financing. Through its strong
relationship with the banking community in Egypt, AIC is able to
prepare financial solutions for new development projects.
Since AIC has a significant participation in the Economy Reform
Programs, specially The Privatization Program, one million and
twenty thousand shares of Kahromika were acquired by AIC,
representing 51% of the company's capital. The transaction was
worth 76 million Egyptian Pounds.
The acquisition of Kahromika strengthens AIC in a very important
contracting activity. Demand for electromechanical work is
increasing as new developments are multiplying. Combined, both
entities can successfully bid for large-scale projects. In
addition, AIC will be a main contractor for the civil works of
the projects contracted by its new subsidiary.
The framework upon which we have built our company is the belief
in continual improvement. This philosophy has been rewarded
today, not only by a standard recognized internationally, the ISO
9002.
The value era has already begun. If you cannot sell a top-quality
product at the world's lowest price, you will be out of the game.
Even with the latest management technology and human element, all
would be obsolete if the final outcome did not produce a
construction that fulfills top international standards.
In the period 1987-1994, out of the number of major projects
executed by the company, 29% were in the tourism sector, 19% in
public services, 15% in industry, and 11% in infrastructure. In
terms of value, however, infrastructure and tourism projects
accounted for 28% and 38% of the total Value respectively with
the balance split among other sectors. The current composition of
AIC's backlog is heavily concentrated in the tourism and
infrastructure sector. Tourism accounts for 46% of the total
number of projects in progress and 50% of the total value,
followed by infrastructure, which accounts for 18%, in terms of
the number of projects, and 33% of the total value.
The company's formula for success is offering the same quality
service as that of international contracting companies at much
lower price-almost 70% less. The company achieved this objective
by providing high quality service using locally sources raw
materials. However, the company experienced quality problems with
the local feeding industries, particularly in bricks and blocks,
cement tiles, aluminum windows, and steel structures.
Concerning the design services, it covers a multitude of fields
engineering including civil, structural, marine, mechanical and
electrical engineering. AIC has carried out major assignments in
the African continent and in regularly engaged by governments,
lending agencies, public sector organizations, private developers
and contractors.
AIC with its flexible approach ensures that projects of all sizes
are handled with equal enthusiasm and commitment.
Throughout its history, AIC has been at the forefront of
technological development keeping track of innovations in the
solid world of hardware and the abrupt world of software.
Moreover costing, scheduling, and quality control of today's
sophisticated large projects requires the application of state of
the art computer analytical methods.
Following in the same footsteps, AIC's Information Technology
Division tailored software that aids in cost estimating, project
scheduling, and project management yielding the sharp competitive
edge needed for success.
The future is communications. From the spoken word to the
internet, the clearest path to staying in tune with change, is
through absolute interaction with our environment. Nurturing open
lines to incorporate cutting edge technology is a must. The
utilization of resources efficiently and on time is not just good
business anymore; it is a responsibility towards the "global
village" that our planet has become.
Whatever the future brings, we welcome it with open arms and
clear vision. A vision of harmony on all levels. This is the
essence of all communication revolution we are parking in. it
embraces client, consultant and co-worker. People living in
harmony; this is the goal for generations to come.
Our Uganda Office, Among our offices abroad, was done to expand
into the regional construction market to take advantage of the
rapid rate of development in Africa and the demand for
infrastructure projects in the region. In addition, these offices
comply with the company's business plan of expanding into
international markets.
The office in Uganda was a result of studies and analysis on
several international markets undertaken years ago, as part of
AIC's international market expansion plan. The studies conducted
that Uganda was particularly promising.
